Food lovers rejoice – spot prawn season is here! Wild BC spot prawns are a delicacy known around the world for their sweet, delicate flavour and firm texture and they are available fresh for about 6 weeks every year. This is a favourite time of year for the team at YEW seafood + bar and this year we’re excited to offer daily spot prawn features for lunch and dinner.
New Executive Chef Edgar Kano is delighted to get to know this decided local speciality. Chef was one of the first in line at the recent Wild BC Spot Prawn Festival to get his hands on the sweet, plump prawns. His favourite way to eat them is raw in a simple ceviche or sautéed with sparkling wine and butter.
Spot Prawn Boil Series to Celebrate the Season
Book a seat at YEW’s communal table for an interactive, get-messy feast in late May and early June. Guests will tie on a bib (yours to keep) and raise a complimentary glass of CedarCreek wines and dig into a purslane + micro mint salad, with roasted cherries, sumac and Greek yogurt vinaigrette as a preview to the main event. Hands stretch across the table to enjoy family style boiled BC spot prawns, heirloom potatoes, Chilliwack corn, grilled asparagus, crookneck squash and roasted baby bell peppers best enjoyed with freshly baked corn bread, dill aioli, fresh lemon and drawn butter. Wrap up the evening with Executive Pastry Chef Suraj Karmakar’s warm strawberry rhubarb crumble with vanilla sauce and bitter 68% Namelaka chocolate tart. Additional CedarCreek wine pairings are available for purchase by the glass and bottle.
